President George Washington Dollar Coins

As the premier entry in the new Presidential Dollar Coin Series, George Washington Dollars will debut in February of 2007. The $1 coins are being introduced in accordance with the Presidential Coin Act of 2005, which requires the United States Mint to strike the coins in commemoration of former US Presidents in the order in which they served in the office. Washington was born in Virginia on February 22, 1732. He served as General of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War for American Independence. He served as President of the United States from 1789 through 1797.
