George Washington Dollar Coins

The obverse, or front side oft his coin will feature a portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States of America. The wording on the coin includes Washington's name, the phrase "1st President" and also includes the years which Washington served in the office, 1789 - 1787. As the first President, Washington had no predecessor; he was succeeded by John Adams of Massachusetts.

The reverse or the rear side of the Washington Dollars will feature the image of the Statue of Liberty at right, as well as the words, "United States of America," and the denomination of "$1." The coin will be made of the same metal, in terms of composition and weight as the Sacagawea Dollar coin is currently made. The Sacagawea Dollar will continue to be produced during the course of the Presidential Dollar Program.

These coins will be the first American coins produced since 1933 to have lettering along the edge of the coin. The new dollar will feature the words "In God We Trust," "E Pluribus Unum" and the date of production along the rim of the coin.
